Back-to-school shopping is back… and yeah, it’s coming for your wallet. The average parent’s looking at around $600, so naturally, everyone’s in “how do I not spend that?” mode.
First move? Shop your own house. There’s a 90% chance last year’s backpack still has perfectly good supplies hiding in it. Free is undefeated.
After that, don’t do one big panic-buy trip. Just stalk the sales a little each week. It spreads out the damage—and honestly feels less painful.
Also, let your phone help you out. Cash-back apps, price checks, all that stuff adds up way faster than you think.
Clothes? Don’t go wild. Kids grow, trends change, and that “must-have” outfit in July is somehow embarrassing by September. Start small, fill in later.
And don’t sleep on secondhand. Thrift stores, Facebook groups, Buy Nothing pages—you can find a ton of stuff for cheap… or straight-up free.
If you’re feeling social, team up with other parents and buy in bulk. Nobody needs 400 pencils alone.
Oh—and if there’s a tax holiday? That’s basically a coupon from the government. Take it.
