So Joplin’s about to get a little… floaty.
The Route 66 Centennial Balloon Festival lands August 28th through the 30th at Missouri Southern, and it’s basically three days of looking up and going, “okay yeah, that’s pretty cool.” We’re talking more than a dozen hot air balloons, plus tethered rides if committing to the full “up, up, and away” thing feels like a lot.
There are also helicopter rides along with a kite show, live music, a big vendor marketplace, and over 70 food trucks. So realistically, showing up hungry is just part of the plan.
Gates open at 7 in the morning and things roll all the way to 10 at night, which gives plenty of time to wander, snack, and casually consider booking an actual balloon flight ahead of time.
Tickets start at $17 for adults, $12 for kids, with multi-day passes and VIP options if you’re feeling fancy. And it’s happening rain or shine—just know the balloons themselves are a little picky about weather.
