New Year’s is not the time to mess with bad luck—so we're cramming our plate full of good‑fortune foods. Seriously, who couldn’t use a little extra prosperity with their champagne?
Let’s start with the Southern classics: black‑eyed peas, greens, and cornbread. That’s pennies, dollars, and gold—aka, “don’t check my bank account” insurance.
Then there are dumplings, whether they’re Chinese jiao zi or Russian pelmeni. They look like little money pockets, so yes please, I’ll take a dozen.
Feeling more protein‑rich? Go for pork or lentils. Pigs root forward—no backtracking this year—and lentils swell when cooked, so we’re basically manifesting abundance through carbs. Works for me.
And if all else fails, eat 12 grapes at midnight (one for each month) and maybe bang some bread on your door to scare off the bad vibes. Round sweets count too—donuts, cookies, cake—because “circle of luck” feels like a pretty delicious life philosophy.
So yeah, call us superstitious. Or maybe just hungry with goals.
Here's to your plate being full in 2026!
