Home Tasks To Take On Before Summer REALLY Starts

Being a homeowner this time of year is basically discovering what winter quietly broke while you weren’t looking.

A contractor I read summed it up perfectly: this is when all those “tiny” problems start waving for attention… and they get expensive fast if you ignore them.

Start easy—clean the gutters. What’s up there right now is less “leaves” and more “future water damage.”

Then give your plumbing a quick side-eye. Winter loves loosening things just enough to drip… slowly… into a repair bill.

Check the caulk in your bathroom too. If it’s cracking or peeling, moisture’s already sneaking in like it pays rent.

While you’re at it, swap your air filters, vacuum your vents, and maybe show your dryer vent some attention before it becomes a fire hazard.

Peek into the attic—look for pests or sneaky roof nails backing out. That one’s a weirdly common culprit.

Test your smoke and CO detectors, reset those tripped outlets you forgot about, and maybe don’t pay an electrician a hundred bucks to push a button. It happens.

Flush the water heater, check the A/C before it’s 95 and angry, and flip your ceiling fans so they’re actually cooling you, not just spinning for decoration.

It’s a short list… until it isn’t. But knocking it out now beats discovering it mid-July with a sweaty panic.
