Friday Brings Big Steaks, Street Art, Food Trucks, Classic Cars, And Zero Boredom
If you’re still “thinking about” Father’s Day weekend plans, good news: Joplin already covered Friday night for you. Consider this your cheat sheet to a Route 66 weekend that pretty much plans itself.
The Friday Night Route 66 Centennial Caravan Party
ALLO Fiber is throwing a full-blown Route 66 bash Friday night at what’s now proudly being dubbed the ALLO Fiber parking lot(Which used to be the Walmart parking lot) – 1717 West 7th Street.
Here’s what you’ll find:
- The Route 66 Centennial Caravan rolling into town Friday evening
- A full food truck row featuring local favorites that “tell the story of Joplin” starting at 3.
- The Big Texan Steak Ranch from Amarillo (yes, THAT 72-ounce steak place) hosting the “Big Texan Steak Eating Challenge!” See if Thom Watts and the team can down a meal of shrimp cocktail, baked potato, side salad, dinner roll with butter, AND that legendary 72-ounce steak, all in under one hour
- The steak challenge running roughly 5:00–6:30 p.m. (or until somebody taps out early).
- 16 brand-new 3D street art murals still on display from the World Street Painting Festival
- Kids zone starting around 3:00 p.m. with:
- Foam cannon
- Misters and fire trucks from the fire department
- Coloring sheets and kids’ activities
- Live music into the night: Kenny Sweet opening for Zane Grimes, playing until about 9:00 p.m.
- ALLO Fiber on site to answer questions, get you signed up for service, and offer promos
Translation: Kids occupied, food everywhere, live music, and a steak showdown that could land a few locals in a meat coma. Your Friday night is handled!
So if you love classic cars, BIG steaks, street art, live music, or just need a foolproof Father’s Day plan, Route 66 has you covered this weekend.
