Toilet Trick Tanks DUI Test

A Virginia woman drove straight past that exit ramp to “desperate measures” and barreled down the expressway to “disgusting.”

Police say Erin Hoopes clipped a Charlottesville police cruiser in her red Mini Cooper, then kept rolling until officers caught up with her. They smelled booze, made the arrest, and took her in for a breath test.

But at the jail, Hoopes asked for the restroom. The officer left the door cracked, not to invade her privacy, but to make sure she didn’t sip from the sink and muddy the mandatory 20-minute breath-test wait.

Well, Hoppes skipped sipping from the sink, and chose an even worse water source.

Police say she instead used the toilet, then, in her Hail Mary play to beat the breathalyzer, scooped up toilet water, mixed with her own urine, and drank it. 

It did not work. The test came back at .26...more than three times Virginia’s legal limit.

She’s charged with second-offense DUI and hit-and-run.
