Now, if it’s your doctor, bank, or your kid’s school, sure, “STOP” away. They’ll actually honor it. But if the message feels sketchy—selling crypto, miracle gummies, or “urgent” sweepstakes winnings—don’t reply at all. Just block them and move on with your life.

On iPhone or Android, you can tap the message, hit the number, and block them in seconds. Or get fancy and turn on text filtering to shunt unknown senders straight into purgatory.
