Father’s Day is June 21st, which means it’s time for the annual game of “what does Dad actually want to do?”
Because if your dad is anything like mine, asking gets you a shrug… maybe a grunt… possibly a “whatever you want.” Cool, super helpful.
Mother’s Day? Easy. Brunch, flowers, done. Dads? Absolute mystery.
So instead of waiting for a detailed itinerary that will never come, here’s the move: keep it simple and pick something he’ll quietly love.
Fire up a backyard cookout. Go fishing. Take a hike or throw together a low-effort picnic. Maybe a family game night if you’re feeling ambitious.
Or lean into his hobbies—golf, live music, a movie, even a comedy show if he enjoys a good laugh (or at least a polite chuckle).
If he’s more “hang out” than “go out,” try a beer or wine tasting at home, dig up old family photos, or finally tackle that project he’s been “meaning to get to” since 2007.
And if all else fails? Float on the water or build your own food crawl. Because honestly, Dad’s ideal day is usually just doing something… without making a big deal about it.
Low pressure. Mild effort. Maybe snacks. That’s the sweet spot.
