Mail Carrier Arrested For Menards Mischief

An Iowa mail carrier apparently took the phrase “save big money at Menards” a little too personally.

Authorities say 45-year-old Jill Brown of Ottumwa is accused of swiping Menards rebate forms from people on her mail route, then redeeming them herself. And this wasn’t just one missing envelope—it allegedly went on for about two years.

Investigators say she allegedly grabbed rebate checks headed to customers, plus receipts customers mailed to Menards for their rebates… then submitted those for herself. That’s some impressively committed coupon crime.

A customer noticed a rebate was missing, Menards said it had already been redeemed, and deputies followed the trail right back to the person delivering the mail.

Brown was charged with fourth-degree theft and released on bond. No word on what she bought with the rebate money, but hopefully it wasn’t a new mailbox.
