So a guy in Texas decided to take Tesla’s “Wade Mode” a little too literally… and drove his Cybertruck straight into a lake.
Not a puddle. Not a creek. A full-on lake.
Jimmy Jack McDaniel told police he just wanted to “test it out” at Grapevine Lake, somewhere between Dallas and Fort Worth. Which is bold… considering “Wade Mode” is more “carefully cross a shallow stream” and less “audition for Titanic 2.”
Unsurprisingly, the truck didn’t exactly become the Nautilus. It stalled out, started taking on water, and both he and his passenger had to bail while the fire department’s water rescue team came in to fish it out.
And here’s the kicker—Tesla says Wade Mode tops out at about 32 inches of water. Also… water damage? Not covered under warranty. Shocking.
Now he’s facing charges for driving in a closed park area, not having a boat registration—which, honestly, feels like adding insult to injury—and a few other water safety violations.
Somewhere, an engineer just sighed really hard.
