Vader Voices Support For Flock Cameras

Darth Vader has apparently added “city council activist” to his résumé.

A guy in full Vader gear showed up at a San Diego City Council meeting to support controversial Flock license-plate cameras — if you can call it support when the argument is basically, “The Emperor needs this to track rebel scum.”

Between the signature heavy breathing and the black helmet, Vader told council members the cameras could help find Luke Skywalker, locate the hidden Rebel base on Hoth, and keep tabs on suspicious X-Wing activity.

Then he took the satire up another notch, saying he personally needed the surveillance tech to stalk his ex-girlfriend. Subtle as a Death Star exhaust port.

Flock cameras can log license plates and details like a vehicle’s make, model, color, and direction of travel. Supporters say they help police investigate crime; critics worry they turn every trip to the grocery store into a low-budget episode of Andor.

San Diego police use the cameras at roughly 500 locations.
