Bill Filed To Allow Oklahoman’s Alligator Ownership

So apparently, Oklahoma might be going full Florida. Senator Jonathan Wingard just filed a bill to let folks own captive-bred alligators! No permit? No problem! It’s called Senate Bill 2087, and it basically says, “Sure, have a gator, just don’t pretend you caught it out back.”

If you try to pass off a wild one or its eggs as captive-bred, that’s a $500 fine. Which feels like a small price to pay for a living dinosaur in your backyard, but okay.

Right now, owning an alligator in Oklahoma is a no-go unless you’re a commercial breeder—those folks already have to jump through hoops. And OKC? They’ve got their own ban on crocs and gators altogether.

No word yet on *why* anyone needs a house alligator, but if this bill passes, you might start hearing “Don’t feed Earl, he bites” at more barbecues.
