Tick Takeover Time: Safety Tips

So… tick season apparently skipped the “ease into it” phase this year.

ER visits for tick bites are already the highest they’ve been since 2017, with the Northeast leading the charge—and yeah, the Midwest is right behind it. Love that for us.

These little freeloaders can carry Lyme disease, which affects hundreds of thousands of people every year. And the worst part? Some of them are basically poppy-seed sized… so you don’t even know you’ve been picked as their next buffet.

Quick post-outdoors routine now looks like this: strip and check your clothes, shower like you mean it, then do a full-body once-over. Think “did I grow a new freckle?” energy.

And don’t skip the VIP areas—behind your ears, underarms, behind your knees, even your belly button. Yeah… they’re weird like that.

Good news: most ticks need to hang out for about a day before transmitting Lyme disease. Bad news: some other tick-borne junk can happen way faster. So if you find one, evict immediately.

Also, your dog? Absolute tick magnet. Get them on prevention meds unless you want them bringing home “souvenirs.”

Bottom line: enjoy the outdoors… just maybe do a little post-hike inspection before you fully relax.
