Woman Wakes With Bat Crawling Into Her Mouth
By Thom Watts·September 1, 2026
Here’s a new bedtime phobic terror for you, because apparently regular nightmares weren’t doing enough.
Dr. Krista Edelman in Richmond, Virginia, was dreaming about a cute little field mouse trying to crawl into her mouth. Weird dream, sure—but then she woke up and realized… it wasn’t a dream. And it wasn't a mouse!
There was a BAT on her face, apparently trying to make its way past her teeth like it had a reservation for an overnight stay.
Still half asleep, she grabbed it—accidentally folding its wings back—and then immediately had the kind of scream that wakes up a spouse, the neighbors, and possibly the dead.
Her husband caught the bat, and they took it to the ER with them. Doctors say that was absolutely the right move, because bat encounters are not the time to play the “I’m probably fine” game.
The good news: the bat tested negative for rabies.
The bad news: every dream involving a mouse is now terrifying forever.
