Backyard Blast from Blender Blunder

File this under “things your blender was not built for.”

A guy in Lakewood, Washington decided to DIY some fireworks in his backyard shed and thought, sure, let’s toss black powder into a blender. Hit “on”… instant explosion. Not exactly the smoothie he was going for.

The dude ended up in serious condition and is somehow both the victim and the suspect—because, yes, making your own explosives is wildly illegal. Neighbors heard a boom that shook their houses, called 911, and probably rethought ever borrowing sugar from that guy again.

Miraculously, nobody else was hurt, and the damage stayed mostly contained to the shed. But when the bomb squad showed up, they didn’t just find a mess—they found about three dozen homemade explosive devices, some already packed and ready to go. So this wasn’t a one-off bad idea… this was a hobby.

Officials are still trying to figure out what the plan was, but safe to say: add this to your “don’t try this at home” list.
