Doctors Warn Against Cyclospora Diet Craze

So… apparently the internet has decided the latest “diet trend” is the cyclospora stomach parasite, and doctors are having to say "NOOOOOOOO!"

Arizona’s dealing with 36 confirmed cases of cyclospora — yeah, the one sometimes linked to contaminated lettuce — and doctors are now having to say out loud, “please don’t try to get this on purpose.” Which feels like something we shouldn’t need reminders about, but here we are.

The joke floating around is basically, “hey, free weight loss.” Except it’s not. It’s severe dehydration, electrolyte loss, muscle cramps, and potentially a long hospital stay. In Arizona heat? That’s playing on expert stupid mode.

One doctor put it pretty bluntly: intentionally getting sick to lose weight is a terrible idea… and also, this one can actually be deadly.

Most of the cases are tied to international travel and not the bigger nationwide outbreak, but still — maybe let’s not turn “poop lettuce” into a wellness plan.

If anything, cook your veggies, skip anything recalled… and maybe don’t take diet advice from a meme.
