New York City Sewer People

New York City now has mysterious sewer people.

Police are trying to figure out why groups of guys keep popping out of manholes in Brooklyn like it’s some kind of late-night game of underground Whac-A-Mole.

We’re talking full-on crews, too. One group of seven dropped into a manhole around 11 p.m. and didn’t come back up until 2 in the morning. Another group—eight guys—did the same thing a few miles away, climbing back out just before 4 a.m. like they just wrapped a shift nobody posted about.

They’re not city workers. No uniforms, no trucks… just coveralls, headlamps, and in at least one case, shovels. Which is exactly as comforting as it sounds.

Police say there’s “no threat to the public,” which is good… but also raises the question—what exactly are they doing down there?

The leading theory is they’re scavenging for valuables that somehow end up in the sewer system. Which feels like a tough way to make a living, but hey… find a niche, I guess.

Officials checked everything out—no damage, nothing dangerous left behind. Just… mystery dudes emerging from the depths at 2 a.m. like it’s completely normal.

So if you’re in Brooklyn and hear a manhole cover move… maybe just keep walking.
