Rooftop Reaper Rattles Patients

Potential patients walking into a hospital in North Wales, UK, were greeted by a grim sight as they looked up to see what appeared to be the Grim Reaper just standing on the roof, silently staring down at them.

That was actually Leon Gillespie, in an all-black hooded getup, waving what looked very much like a long blade and making creepy noises at people below on the roof of Ysbyty Glan Clwyd (Spelled correctly) hospital in St Asaph. He stayed up there for close to an hour before four police cars and fire crews showed up and talked him down.

In court, he swore it wasn’t the Grim Reaper at all, it was a “crow” costume… because that’s obviously so much more reassuring on a hospital roof. He didn’t give any reason for the stunt, but he did plead guilty to causing a nuisance on hospital premises.

He ended up with around £200  ($270 American) in fines, plus compensation and costs on top of that. And just to round out the day’s weirdness, he also admitted to stealing cat food, cat litter, and some food and drink from local shops earlier in the year.

The health board, meanwhile, reminded everyone they’ve got zero tolerance for abuse, aggression, or general nuisance on hospital grounds—especially the kind involving faux Grim Reapers on the roof.
