On Super Bowl Sunday, a Florida pickleball game turned full WWE.
It went down at a country club near Daytona when Anthony Sapienza, decided his opponents stepped into the ‘kitchen.’ (That’s a pickleball thing — you can’t volley from there. Apparently it’s serious business.)
Arguments flew, then Anthony allegedly dropped the C-word at one of the women — not “cheater,” by the way — and things got spicy fast. He punched her husband in the face, smacked him with a paddle, and even clocked another guy just for trying to help. A 70-year-old woman got shoved, too. Total chaos — about twenty people involved in the brawl by the time it was over. Most of them Seniors.
The Sapienzas bolted before cops tracked them down. He’s now facing multiple felony charges, she’s got one of her own.
Have we reached peak pickleball yet? Some of us are obviously taking it a little too seriously . . . and someone’s gettin’ a paddling.
