Not everybody wakes up like a Disney character. Some of us open our eyes and immediately feel like we’re late for something… even when we’re not.
Apparently, that lovely little panic spike is thanks to cortisol—your body’s built-in stress alarm. And according to Dr. Anna Elton, some of our morning “habits” are basically hitting the panic button on purpose.
Like slamming the snooze button five times… congrats, you just rehearsed being late.
Or rolling out of bed dehydrated and going straight for coffee, which is basically telling your nervous system, “let’s make this interesting.”
Then there’s the mental chaos—either overplanning every second of your day… or having zero plan and just free-falling into it.
Oh—and grabbing your phone immediately? Yeah, nothing says “good morning” like emails, headlines, and other people’s problems.
Also not helping: staying in the dark too long and pretending your feelings don’t exist.
So if your mornings feel a little unhinged… it might not be you. It might just be your routine quietly choosing violence.
